Making a Heaven of Hell

“What makes a place Heaven or Hell? Maybe it’s not the place itself, but how we choose to live within it.”
A person is granted a vision of both Hell and Heaven to understand the difference between them.
First, they visit Hell.
They find themselves in a grand banquet hall, a lavish feast spread across a circular table. The food is exquisite - fragrant, abundant, enough for everyone. But something is wrong.
The people seated around the table look thin, angry, and desperate. Each holds a long-handled spoon - so long they can’t bring food to their own mouths. Despite the abundance, they starve, trapped in frustration and misery, unable to satisfy their own hunger.
Next, the person is taken to Heaven.
It’s the same hall, the same table, the same delicious feast. Even the same long-handled spoons.
But here, the people are joyful, well-fed, and content. Laughter fills the air.
The difference?
In Heaven, the people have learned to feed one another. Instead of struggling alone, they use the long-handled spoons to serve the person across from them. In helping others, they are nourished themselves.
What Does This Teach Us?
This ancient parable still holds profound relevance today.
In a world where individualism often overshadows community, many of us find ourselves in modern-day Hells - surrounded by abundance, yet feeling disconnected, isolated, and unfulfilled.
The solution? Collaboration. Compassion. Connection.
We heal, grow, and thrive not alone, but together.
When we focus solely on ourselves, we suffer. When we turn towards each other, we create community - and in community, there’s strength, healing, and joy.

- Who are you feeding in your life?
- Who’s feeding you?
- Are you holding your spoon out or only inward?
I stay hurt, we heal.
I survive, we thrive.
We stand together or we fall apart.
Let’s choose community. Let’s make Heaven here.
